In the romantic Swiss village of Gottlieben (founded 1251), Queen Hortense Bonaparte enjoyed so-called ‘gaufrettes’ from Gottlieben, when she lived at nearby Schloss Arenenberg from 1817 to 1837. Therefore, her famous son, the later emperor of France Napoleon III., also became a fan of melt-in-the-mouth Gottlieber Hüppen. The current traditional Swiss company was founded by Elisabeth Wegeli in 1928. Now as then, the Gottlieber Hüppen are baked and rolled individually and hand packed, just as they always used to be. These artisan origins are also reflected in the fillings created and produced in-house (some of which have been awarded gold medals) and made of a combination of finest Swiss chocolate and melt-in-the-mouth gourmet creams.
